Ma Rainey - Gertrude Pridgett Rainey, better known as Ma Rainey (April 26, 1886 – December 22, 1939), was the earliest known professional blues singers3 and one of the first generation of such singers to record. She was billed as The Mother of the Blues.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom - Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is a 1982 play; one of a ten-play cycle by August Wilson that chronicles 20th Century African American experience. The play is set in Chicago in the 1920s (the only play in the group not set in Pittsburgh).
